Catatonia: Recognize and Respond
Catatonia is a treatable syndrome marked by immobility, mutism, posturing, or agitation. It can occur in mood disorders, psychosis, or medical illnesses.
What to Do
- Seek urgent medical care if suspected—catatonia can be life‑threatening.
- Lorazepam challenge and supportive care are first‑line; ECT is highly effective when needed.
